What is slab leveling, and why is it in my flooring quote?+
Almost every Arizona home sits on a concrete slab, and a floating floor is only as flat as the slab beneath it. Most manufacturers require the slab to be flat within 3/16 of an inch over 10 feet — and many Phoenix slabs are not, especially in homes built fast during the boom years. Slab prep — grinding high spots, filling low spots, patching, or pouring self-leveler — typically adds $1 to $3 per square foot, the published range in our blog “Flooring Installation Cost in Phoenix (2026)”. It is in your quote because the floor you paid for needs a flat foundation to perform.
Can I skip slab prep to bring the price down?+
You can ask — and we will tell you honestly why it is a false saving. Slab leveling is the hidden line item in Arizona quotes: it is the one a low bid quietly leaves out, and skipping it is a leading cause of clicking, flexing, and joint failure once the floor is down. If one quote is far below another, check whether slab prep is actually in it before you compare the totals.
